A beautifully glazed Banko ware oval bowl with a nostalgic feel, perfect for pasta, salad or Japanese curry of course.
Created by Nakagawa in collaboration with Yamaguchi Pottery in Mie Prefecture, where Banko-yaki pottery has been passed down since the mid-Edo period. The tradition began when Numami Rozan, a wealthy Kuwana merchant, opened a kiln as an extension of his tea ceremony interests. Today, the region around Yokkaichi City and Komono Town remains a major centre for Japanese tableware production.
Made from semi-porcelain with intermediate properties between soft ceramic and high-strength porcelain, Banko ware is characterised by its heat resistance and durability. The oval shape and generous size make this bowl wonderfully versatile—equally at home with pasta dishes or traditional Japanese curries.
