Collection: CANDLES
Wa Rousoku (和ろうそく) are traditional Japanese candles, made for centuries with a wick quite different from a Western one. The core is washi (Japanese paper), wrapped with tōshin (灯芯) — a length of soft pith drawn from the inside of rush-grass stems. That thicker wick absorbs more wax and burns with a larger, brighter flame — one that moves, holds longer, and softens a room in a particular way.
At the moment, this collection is one piece: Nakagawa's Wa Rousoku, available in four scents — Sandalwood, Green Seeds, Japanese White Birch, and Violet. The tōshin is hand-made in Andō Town, Nara Prefecture, a region historically known for rush-grass and the craft of tōshin-hiki. We'll add to the range as we find candles worth carrying.
