Petite teacup from Minami Kiln that nestles perfectly in your palm. The simple form works well with Japanese green tea, Chinese oolong, or daily brews.
Holding approximately 100ml—similar to a traditional guinomi sake cup—this size encourages slow sipping and frequent refills.
Each cup is individually wheel-thrown and finished using kohiki technique, where white slip is applied over dark clay before firing. This creates a soft, powdery surface with distinctive crazing patterns where each piece is subtly unique.
Crafted in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, Japan's largest ceramic production region known for extraordinary diversity in pottery styles.
Material: Ceramic
Weight: Approx. 132g
Capacity: Approx. 90cc
Diameter: 7.5cm
Height: 6.5cm
[Before First Use]
To prevent staining and protect the fine surface cracks (crazing), we recommend performing the following preparation steps:
1. Place the ceramic item in a pot with rice rinsing water (or, plain water with a handful of uncooked rice or table spoon of flour)
2. Heat over medium-low heat until just before boiling
3. Simmer gently for about 15 minutes
4. Turn off the heat and allow to cool completely to room temperature in the liquid
5. Remove, wash thoroughly with mild detergent, and dry completely before use
This traditional "sealing" process fills the microscopic pores in the clay, helping to prevent stains and extend the life of your ceramic piece.
