THE Rice Bowl series celebrates Japan's ceramic diversity among production regions. Each bowl showcases the unique characteristics of its origin.
This Karatsu edition delves into the deep history of tea ceremony culture that shaped Japanese ceramics. Created in collaboration with the renowned Nakazato Taroemon kiln in Saga—a kiln with over four hundred years of history that has produced Living National Treasures—under the guidance of Nakazato Taroemon XIV.
THE Rice Bowl "Karatsu" explores the prototype of Korean Karatsu ware. Following the style of early Edo period Korean Karatsu rice bowls, iron glaze is applied to the inside and straw ash glaze to the outside—creating the distinctive contrast that defines this regional tradition.
Each bowl is entirely handmade on the potter's wheel without molds, achieving a consistent shape while expressing the natural variations that make every piece subtly unique.
THE Rice Bowl's proportions are designed to nestle best in your hand. The size was considered with natural finger proportions and is a shape that simply feels right.
