Collection: Mashiko Ware
Mashiko ware (益子焼) is the pottery of Tochigi Prefecture — earthy, generous, and rooted in the mingei (folk craft) movement championed by Hamada Shōji in the early twentieth century. Where Arita and Hasami trade in porcelain precision, Mashiko works in stoneware: clay bodies, ash and iron glazes, and a quiet acceptance of variation.
The town's kilns have been firing since around 1853, and Mashiko remains one of Japan's most active pottery centres. What you can find here today is everyday tableware in the truest sense.
