Collection: Mino Ware

Mino ware (美濃焼) comes from a cluster of kilns in southern Gifu Prefecture, where ceramics have been made continuously since the late Heian period. Today, the region produces more than half of all Japan's ceramic tableware — a scale built over a thousand years of refining clay, glaze, and form.

Within Mino, individual kilns and makers carry distinct traditions. Shinzan-gama Yamatsu has been firing in Toki City since 1868. Nakagawa works with Mino kilns to revive older forms like the yama-chawan. Across these workshops, the shared quality is everyday usability — pieces designed to handle daily meals, develop character with use, and pair quietly with food and table.

We carry a selection of Mino ware at Karintō Edition, with a focus on the makers whose work rewards regular handling.
